Overview

As a Senior Product Designer, I led the design and development of the Delivery Mobile App, a comprehensive solution for managing cold storage logistics. This app was designed to optimize the monitoring, tracking, and management of temperature-sensitive goods across various cold storage locations. The project involved extensive user research, UI/UX design, and iterative testing to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Problem Statement

The logistics industry struggles with inefficiencies in managing cold storage for temperature-sensitive goods, leading to spoilage, regulatory non-compliance, and increased costs. Existing systems lack real-time visibility, seamless communication, and user-friendly interfaces. Stakeholders need a reliable solution to monitor temperatures, manage inventory, and ensure timely actions to maintain product quality. An effective mobile app is needed to provide real-time tracking, improve efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance, addressing these critical industry challenges.

Design Process

1. Discover

  • Conducted interviews with stakeholders, including cold storage operators, logistics managers, and quality control officers.
  • Gathered insights on pain points, workflow inefficiencies, and specific user needs.

2. Define

  • Analyzed the collected data to identify key problems and requirements.
  • Developed a clear understanding of the user journey and their interactions with the cold storage system.

3. Ideate

  • Brainstormed potential solutions to address identified challenges.
  • Developed wireframes to outline the app’s structure and key functionalities.
  • Created interactive prototypes to visualize user interactions and gather feedback.

4. Design

  • Designed a clean and intuitive user interface focusing on ease of use and quick access to critical information.
  • Incorporated visual elements such as icons and color codes to represent different statuses and actions (e.g., open/closed, fresh/frozen/live).
Quantitative Research

1. Data Collection

  • Conducted surveys with a large sample of cold storage operators, logistics managers, and quality control officers to quantify common issues and requirements.
  • Analyzed historical data from existing cold storage management systems to identify patterns and inefficiencies.

2. Key Metrics Identified

  • Temperature Deviations: Frequency and impact of temperature deviations on product quality.
  • Inventory Turnover: Rates of inventory turnover and associated spoilage rates.
  • Operational Efficiency: Time taken for various tasks such as inventory checks, package scanning, and task assignments.
  • User Satisfaction: Satisfaction levels with current systems based on ease of use, reliability, and feature set.

3. Findings

  • High Rate of Spoilage: Identified a significant percentage of goods spoiled due to temperature deviations.

  • User Dissatisfaction: Revealed low satisfaction scores due to cumbersome interfaces and lack of real-time data.

1. Place List

  • Displays a list of cold storage locations, including details such as name, address, operation status, and supported cold services.
  • Users can filter and search for specific places based on criteria like temperature range and type of goods stored.

2. Package List

  • Provides a detailed view of the packages stored in each location, including package ID, contents, weight, and storage conditions.
  • Allows users to scan box IDs using the camera for quick access to package information.

3. Workboard

  • A centralized hub for managing tasks and communications related to cold storage operations.
  • Users can create, assign, and track tasks, facilitating collaboration among team members.

4. Profile Management

  • Enables users to manage their profiles, including editing personal information and tracking their transactions and gains.
  • Supports different user roles such as host, operator, supporter, and guest, each with specific permissions.

5. Temperature Monitoring

  • Real-time monitoring and logging of temperature conditions for each package.
  • Graphical representation of temperature trends over time to ensure compliance with storage requirements.

6. Notifications and Alerts

  • Sends alerts for critical events such as temperature deviations, package movements, and task updates.
  • Ensures timely action to prevent spoilage and maintain the quality of stored goods.
